Ergodyne has released two new products designed to reduce injuries during material handling tasks that occur before and after construction and maintenance work.

The St. Paul, Minnesota-based safety equipment manufacturer introduced the 5303 Extension Ladder Shoulder Lifting Strap & Carrying Handle and the 3169 Warehouse Racking Stabilizer Strap on Dec. 16.

Extension ladder carrier

The 5303 ladder carrier is designed for extension ladders with hollow rungs. The system uses a padded shoulder strap to redistribute weight away from the arms and lower back.

“Everyone protects the job. Very few are thinking about protecting the prep before the job or the pack-out when it’s done,” said Matt Hahn, product manager at Ergodyne. “That’s what inspired our first ladder carrying system a few years back and why we continue to expand the category today.”

The device is intended to provide more control when carrying ladders through hallways and doorways.

Racking stabilizer

The 3169 stabilizer strap allows a single worker to hold warehouse racking crossbeams in place during assembly or disassembly. The tool is designed to prevent finger injuries and dropped beams.

“The outsized impact on safety and productivity belies the simplicity of the design,” said Chris Reilly, product manager at Ergodyne. “Racking assembly is just plain safer and faster with this thing.”

Material handling focus

The new products follow Ergodyne’s 5300 A-Frame Ladder Shoulder Lifting Strap & Carrying Handle, which was released previously.

Ergodyne developed the products following a partnership with a facilities company that experienced injuries and equipment damage related to ladder transport. Workers at that company reported carrying ladders across campuses, through doorways and up stairwells without specialized equipment.

“These tools solve the stuff no one ever really writes down on a JHA but many workers experience,” said Hahn. “This is about protecting the setup work—the walk, the haul, the balance, the bracing—all the moments that put crews at risk before the job even starts.”

The products are available on the company’s website.
